The University of Saskatchewan raised tuition for the 2011-2012 school year by 3.2 per cent, netting the university $6.1 million more than in the previous year. About $2.4 million of the overall tuition revenue increase will go toward existing operations, while the remaining $3.7 million will fund enhancements to programs and services.
According to Statistics Canada, the Consumer Price Index increased by 2.2 per cent over the last 12 months, a full percentage point lower than the rise in tuition.
Tuition revenue make up about 22 per cent of the university’s operating budget while the provincial government provides about 70 per cent. The remainder comes from investments and other sources of income. The university’s 2011-12 operating budget will be released next month.
