A hard-fought game right to the final buzzer ended somberly for many of the Huskies women’s basketball players following their 62-66 loss to the Brock University Badgers Friday, March 9 in the first game of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Women’s Basketball West Regional Tournament.

Huskies capture conference bronze: Miyazaki wins third-straight defensive award
It was the combination of an established veteran and a motivated rookie that led the Huskies women’s basketball team to a bronze medal March 3 and 4 at the Canada West Final Four tournament in Regina.
The veteran came in the form of the Dogs’ best player throughout the regular season, Katie Miyazaki. The fifth-year guard not only won her third-straight Canada West defensive player of the year award, but also earned a conference first team all-star mention for her strong performance this year.
Bittersweet finish for Duncan Jones: Huskies senior drains nine threes as Saskatchewan’s season ends early
Duncan Jones’s final game in a Huskies basketball uniform was bittersweet.
The fifth-year guard led Saskatchewan to a Canada West bronze medal after putting up 40 points — including an astounding nine three-pointers on 10 attempts — in front of his hometown crowd at the Physical Activity Complex in a 90-85 win over the University of Victoria Vikes March 3.
Huskies basketball to host Final Four
The No. 3 ranked Huskies men are set to host the Canada West Final Four for the first time ever following two wins against the Trinity Western Spartans at the Physical Activity Complex Feb. 24 and 25.
The men played a close first game against the Spartans on Feb. 24, but pulled ahead in the final quarter to win 98-83. Fourth-year guard Jamelle Barrett scored 36 points for the Huskies — more than a third of the team’s total. Meanwhile, despite a wobbly start on the first night of a two-game series against the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack, the No. 3 ranked Huskies women’s basketball team ended the weekend by sweeping their opponents.
Dogs set for undefeated Cougars this weekend: Women’s basketball tips off against No. 1 Regina to finish regular season
With only one game remaining, the Huskies women’s basketball regular season is far from over.
The Dogs take on provincial rival and undefeated powerhouse University of Regina Cougars in their last match of the regular season Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Physical Activity Complex in Saskatoon.
While the match means nothing on paper, the game will be the Huskies’ most difficult test of the year.
Huskies basketball sweeps Bobcats
A 23-point Saskatchewan lead after the first quarter of action put last weekend’s first men’s basketball game out of reach for the Bobcats almost immediately. Though Brandon actually outscored Saskatchewan by one point in the remainder of the game, the Dogs easily won 92-70. Later, the Huskies women’s basketball team nearly doubled the points of their opponents Friday, Jan. 27 at the PAC, as they dominated the league’s worst team, the Brandon University Bobcats. Saskatchewan downed the visitors 81-42.
Katie Miyazaki guiding young team to playoffs
As a two-time national champion with her former team, Katie Miyazaki is confident that the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, too, are capable of a national title.
Miyazaki joined the Dogs last year after playing three seasons with the Simon Fraser University Clan.
The Clan left Canadian Interuniversity Sport in 2010 to join the NCAA ranks. Miyazaki chose to stay in the CIS and play with Saskatchewan. It is a decision that she does not look back on with regret.
Huskies basketball sweeps Pronghorns
A huge weight was lifted off the Huskies women’s basketball team Nov. 18 as they tallied their first win of the season against the visiting Lethbridge Pronghorns.
The Dogs, who had lost their previous three games, downed the Horns 62-55.

Huskies take third straight title at Graham Shootout
With its superstars out of the lineup, the Huskies men’s basketball team still managed to win its third straight Graham Shootout title this past weekend at the Physical Activity Complex.
The Shootout is an annual preseason round-robin tournament in which the Dogs host four top-10 teams from throughout Canada. Graham Construction has sponsored the tournament since 2008.
