Look at Leon Thompson. How could 72% of people vote for his complete and total unprofessionalism?

His pictures do not signify that he is "cool". It simply suggests he does not give two shits about his position.

      Anonymous,

We do in fact have a professional image on file for Leon. The candid picture used in this article was taken immediately after the election results were revealed. As he was the solitary student on campus to actually run for any of the six possible senate positions, we figure he must give at least one shit, if not two, about his position.

    • Primate

      or he wanted free food…

And you could not take a better picture? Perhaps one where he doesn't look so unprofessional? Way to represent a student properly, Sheaf. I'm sure his parents/family are really impressed by this article on him.

    • Katie Salmers

They would probably laugh, smile, and say, "Yeah, that's Leon." He's seriously hilarious. Maybe you should get to know him.

    • Batman

      He's seriously hilarious?

  • Brennan Field

    Oh, bitch, bitch, bitch.

    Hey Anonymous,

    1. I'd rather be approachable and silly than stuffy and "professional"
    2. Where were you during the election? Everywhere?
    3. You should get to know me.

      Hey Leon,

Try being "silly" in real world politics. See how well that goes for you.

  • Anonymous

Seems to me Mr. Thompson should be commended for actually getting things done in this past year on the USSU. That's more than we can say for a lot of political figures, and look how "professional" they are…

    • Blair

Mr. Thompson actually did very little in the past year. He likely did the least out of the entire exec.

    • Kylie

      This is very true.

    • Katie Salmers

I'm not entirely sure what your beef is with the USSU. If you feel things need to change, perhaps you should suggest something constructive or run for a position yourself.

    • Blair

Here is a quote from another sheaf article on what they saw Thompson do all year, "We literally cannot recall anything he did all year." Sounds like Leon did not do very much.

    • Melissa

It seems like Victoria Martinez wrote the executive's report card (since it has been her reporting on the USSU this year so far). She made sure to mention herself in the article and when she should have stopped at the line "We literally cannot recall anything he did all year" (because seriously, what did he do all year?) she needed to add a liiiiitttle extra in there just to make sure and kiss his ass nice and good. Blair did absolutely nothing except attempt to tear apart absolutely anything that chris did or had planned for the year. Why is it that Chris and Scott's blurbs are so blatantly snippy and there is nothing similar for Blair & Leon? It is obvious who she dislikes and who she likes and apparently she couldn't keep her views and her reporting separate. She should save it for her opinion pieces.

    • Kevin Menz

The report card was written by myself and Victoria, with help from many other members on staff.

I wrote the line about Victoria appearing on the show. It was a consistent joke throughout council this year that Leon would speak about the USSU radio show. I honestly thought this was the only thing he did all year aside from Green Yourself Week, but who remembers that? ;)

I thought we were pretty mean to all of them. The report cards are an annual "tongue-in-cheek" joke with the Sheaf. We like all of the executive and I know they were all bugging us to see what the report cards would look like.

  • Bill Wilson

I would have voted for Leon if I could. Unfortunately, I live in Toronto, which doesn’t only make me smarter and better looking than you, but it forces me to sit back and watch Leon succeed without my help.

Thank goodness for this wondrous thing called The Internets. I can sit at my lovely upscale apartment in our nation’s capital and tell you just how amazing of a person Leon really is. I can tell you that I am a better person for having known him (not that I needed to be, though I am still grateful) and can tell you that Leon is going to senatorize the living fuck out of U of S.

Yes, thank goodness for The Internets. A place where ideas can be shared, cats can be lol’d at and anonymous wieners can troll campus newspapers and pick fights for no apparent reason.

  • anon

way i see it unless you're on the exec or try to be don't criticize those who take the time and put in the work to be part of the executive.

    • Blair

Yeah, the executive is beyond reproach.

Just because you see something being done wrong doesn't mean you should say something. That's the USSU way.

    • Sheva

Or… if you are an undergraduate student that has met with this member of the exec and they claimed to be too busy to do the things that you bring to their attention… and you find out that they are too busy because they are watching videos in their office. They then go on to put on a grand total of 2 events all year, and not take on new initiatives or put the effort into showing students that they care enough to listen to them and see to it that their concerns are addressed. Then I think it's fair to speak up and say that you aren't a huge fan.

  • Blair

Other Blair, what did you do? You openly stated you did nothing in your job all year long.

    • Katie Salmers

Oh Blair who is not Blair Shumlich, I would love to meet you in person. The majority of your opinions and accusations are based on secondhand accounts. So silly.

    • Ryan

The elusive Blair. What did Blair Shumlich do all this year… axe the external position, talk about he used to be racist but then he went for beers with his Iranian friend and isn't anymore (should be Student Council minutes), put all his energy towards ensuring the Social Justice Centre fails, avoid lobbying at all costs, take time off work… take more time off work… and then a little more. I know this because every time I have went into the USSU offices in search of the fellow, the receptionist says "Blair is off for the day" "Blair off for the afternoon" "oh, you know, I am not sure where he is or when he will be back", my student fees are being spent so well.

    • http://ussu.ca Blair Shumlich

Don't forget my extravagant and outrageous costume parties.

    • Primate

      Oh… that explains the bowties.

  • David

I approached Leon this term about the poor quality of food and how unprofessional it was for Louis to randomly close on a Friday afternoons. I finally tracked him down after a few days, as I have never seen him in his office. When I told Leon this he said he would look at the early closing causes, if he had time. I do not understand how he does not have time to do his job. A quick look at his facebook page will show exactly what he does with his time. Approximately every 15 minutes he posts some random article of apparent interest. It is nice to see that he if making good use of the time we are paying him for and that his iPhone that is paid for by the USSU is going to good use.

    • Anonymous

I guess Leon doesn't have anything to say in response. He's probably too busy pretending to actually do work or playing on his fancy little iPhone.

  • Theon Lompson

but in this case, it is with good reason.

  • Blair Shumlich

Or they simply wish you had done your job…..
