Protesting is part of free speech too.
I don't really know who to believe on this thing. Were the protestors burning books? If so, then they were crossing the line. But if that's made up, and Ann Coulter called this thing off herself, well, then this is a media stunt.

Never will I defend the despicable remarks made by Ann Coulter, but the U of O student body has faired far worse in this cancellation because it shows their complete lack of confidence to win an argument. "Hate speech" is something you can say when elementary kids pick on each other. Not for serious adults engaging in civil debate. Censorship is creating a rod for your own back and that's what the U of O just did for itself. how shameful.

The concept of "safe space" has gone from creating an environment where people are physically safe and able to get through their day without having slurs hurled at them to ensuring that no one has his/her beliefs confronted or challenged at any time. Universities are supposed to be places of open debate, where all voices can be heard. Even (or especially) those voices that you, or I, disagree with. Unfortunately, stopping Coulter from speaking gave her much more press and credibility than she would have had if she had spoken and the protesters had confronted her hateful speech with questions and comments rather than attempting to shut her down.

Ann Coulter has really honed the art of dividing people. It's truly scary. Also, she has striking resemblance to the White Witch from Narnia… which doesn't help.
